Aoife Claire Holly Hegarty graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Laws (International) from the National University of Ireland, Cork, in 2010. In the period 2008-2009, Aoife was an exchange student of the LL.M program at Beasley School of Law, Temple University Philadelphia. During this time she interned at the Juvenile Division of the Philadelphia Family Court.

 

Between 2010-2011, Aoife lived in Damascus, Syria where she worked as an English language teacher at an international secondary school. This experience ignited Aoife’s passion for Middle Eastern affairs, during which time she learned conversational Arabic.

 

Aoife has lived in Copenhagen, Denmark since August 2011, graduating with a Master of Laws from the University of Copenhagen in 2013. Her academic focus has been on international law, human rights law and international humanitarian law, the latter forming the basis of her Master’s thesis on the legality of humanitarian intervention and the Syrian conflict.

 

Aoife has worked as a legal researcher and project coordinator for a human rights think tank since 2012. She is fluent in English, Irish and Danish, as well as having proficient French and conversational Arabic.
