Albena Slavova has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. In 2015 she completed a master’s degree in Public International Law after graduating from Leiden University in the Netherlands. She is currently working as a Chief specialist at the Dublin Unit of the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her work is mostly related to the implementation of the Dublin III Regulation, and particularly to processing and answering to requests for determining the Member State responsible for the examination of a certain application for international protection.

The complex issues surrounding refugees and internally displaced persons in the international sphere is what drove Albena to focus her studies and pursue a career in refugee law and human rights. It is essential to look for most effective ways to protect and assist these groups of people. Thus, she decided she would like to contribute for the enhancement and development of refugee law and she is thrilled with the opportunity to be part of the IWB research team.
